Shaʽb Abu Nuħas

Shaab Abu Nuhas (“Tin Reef”) has been the terror of all those sailing towards the Red Sea since the opening of the Suez Canal in 1860.
She was the last but by far the most dangerous obstacle on the way to the open sea. The numerous wrecks resting on its slopes are a testimony to how difficult the crossing was. Carnatic (September 1869), Marcus (May 1978), Kimon M (December 1978), Chrisoula K (August 1981), San Juan (January 1982).

Interestingly, in February 1987, “Cargo Olden” sailing under the Panamanian flag, sank on Shaab Abu Nuhas. Despite her size (213 meters), the wreck has not been found until today. The only trace of the tragedy is the anchor lying at a depth of 50 meters.
